These changes may be sometimes positive and sometimes negative. However, such changes depend on the usability of the Internet based on the needs of the users. Keeping in view that the Internet has the potential for both positive and negative impacts on the lives of students; this study was undertaken in the context of students at Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST), Pakistan. To this end, this formulated three major objectives that were measured through different questions. The study adopted a quantitative approach and used a survey method. A questionnaire was used as a data collection tool. Data was collected from a randomly selected sample of students of BS and MS currently enrolled in different study programs of KUST. The collected data was analyzed through SPSS (ver23) and MS Excel. The results were presented both in tabulated and diagrammatic forms. Based on the results, it was found that students in the KUST are sufficiently able to use Internet. These students can use different electronic gadgets for the use of Internet to accomplish their academic and other educational needs. Likewise, the results showed that the major purpose of the use of Internet at the KUST was reported as entertainment and thus was established that these students rarely used Internet for their educational and research activities. Furthermore, the findings showed that students in the KUST used the Internet at their hostel but prefer to have adequate access to it in their IT department. Similarly, it was also found that the major tool used by these students for Internet usability is cell phone and have little or limited or no use of iPad and tablets for the use of the Internet. All these results were further validated a with one-way ANOVA test and independent sample t-test to affirm that any suggestion or recommendations or actions at any level may be considered in the light of the demographic characteristics of the study participants. This is with the purpose that all results based on these tests were found significant with respect to the demographic features.
2022-12-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2022 JIMLS KKKUK A Conceptual Framework and the Curriculum for Information Literacy Education in the Sri Lankan Universities: A Delphi Study 2023-02-20T05:48:04+00:00 Prasanna Ranaweera Mervin Weerasinghe
Information literacy (IL) skills are essential components of the university curriculum which enable to create quality graduates in the time of explosion of information sources, and media. Information Literacy skills are the foundation to deep learning, independent learning, and lifelong learning, resulting in critical and creative thinking skills and problem-solving skills. Students are required to be competent in IL skills such as identify, locate, evaluate, and use information. The Sri Lankan Qualification Framework supports the IL programs extensively. The main objective of this study was to develop an IL conceptual framework and curriculum to guide IL education in the Sri Lankan Universities. Online Delphi surveys were used to collect qualitative and quantitative data. The questionnaire was administered in two rounds. Data was analyzed using descriptive, multivariate statistical procedure and Partial Lease Square Structural Equation Modelling. Finally, an IL conceptual framework and the IL curriculum for the Sri Lankan Universities was designed
2023-02-20T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2022 JIMLS KKKUK Research Trends of LIS Schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 2023-02-20T05:52:53+00:00 Abid Hussain Dr Muhammad Ismail
The change has been a constant phenomenon in librarianship. However, when we talk about the LIS schools in developing countries, the situation in Pakistan is a bit slowly. Overall, the progress of LIS education in the country is increasing because new schools have been set up in the last few years and research trends are growing. Still, Pakistan has not yet reached its position as other developing countries did in the previous few decades. Presently, 15 schools offer a degree in Library and Information Science discipline. These university faces serious issues like faculty education, curriculum development, assessment and infrastructure etc. The Higher Education Commission Pakistan HECP is pushing hard to inculcate productive research culture in educational sectors, including the LIS discipline. The paper presents an overview of research trends among LIS schools based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The result shows that 588 articles and theses were contributed by three schools exclusive of the School of LIS in Swabi and Swat, which are not fully operational. The authors have covered the gap of present faculties working in these schools until 2021, and a gap is left for future research. The study is helpful for LIS Schools in Pakistan in general and KP in particular. The stakeholders of universities, scholars, academia, HEC and Educational ministry will get possible help from the present paper.
2023-02-20T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2022 JIMLS KKKUK Perception of Medical students towards the emerging trends & Its Impact on the library Services 2023-02-20T06:59:51+00:00 Saeed Ullah Dr. Sayed Ghafar Shah Muhammad Yahya Jan
Purpose of the study: The purpose of this research paper is to know the perception of the medical students about the emerging trends in libraries of public sector medical colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This thesis explains the current situation of emerging trends in the form services and resources in private sector university libraries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The adapted questionnaire was used for acquiring data from the in-charge librarians of Eleven Private Sector Universities Khyber Pakhtunkhwa /Degree Awarding Institute recognized by Higher Education Commission, Pakistan (HEC). Findings of the research work show that the only three libraries were well equipped and using modern trends beside the conventional setup. While in further discussion, it reveals that lack of financial resources is the major barrier to implement emerging technology in university libraries. Some of the libraries have lack of professional and skillful staff which is another hurdle to introduce modern technological based services and emerging resources in university libraries. The distribution of separate financial plan for emerging technologies and trends, hiring of qualified and technological skilled staff , arrangement of training and user education programs, provision of the power supply Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) generators, high-speed internet connections, implementation of updated hardware and software as per HEC requirements to fulfill library need and measurements, should be given top priority for enhancement and provision of better library service and resources to the clientele.
2023-02-20T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2022 JIMLS KKKUK RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ICT, s SKILLS AND JOB SATISFACTION OF LIBRARIANS IN THE UNIVERSITIES OF SINDH, (PAKISTAN) 2023-03-03T15:49:30+00:00 Abu bakar Subhpoto Tariq Rasheed Dr Shamshad Ahmed
Purpose_ The main purpose of this research was to check the correlation between ICT, s skills and employment satisfaction of librarians in the universities of Sindh, Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach – To achieve the objectives of the study researchers were established the four research hypotheses.
