Exploring Librapreneurship In Pakistan: Perceptions From Library And Information Professionals

This study investigates the perceptions of university librarians and Library and Information Science (LIS) faculty regarding the required entrepreneurial competencies required for the LIS graduates to venture as a librapreneur. It also seeks their perceptions regarding the most suitable librapreneurial opportunities available for LIS graduates. A quantitative research approach is employed, utilizing a survey research method. The data was collected from university librarians and LIS faculty of Pakistan using a semi-structured questionnaire. The data was analysed using SPSS 21 version. The findings reveal that the Library and Information Sciences community (LIS Faculty, University Librarians) perceive knowledge of emerging tools and technologies using ICTs, decision-making, and effective communication as the most preferred entrepreneurial competencies. The preferred librapreneurial ventures identified include archive management, technical services, capacity-building training, bibliography and citation management, and research project management/assistance. The study provides valuable insight to draw the attention of LIS schools, policymakers, and the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan towards entrepreneurship in the field of library and information sciences. Furthermore, this study creates awareness among LIS graduates about librapreneurial ventures available in their field and the understanding of the required competencies needed for success.
