2024-02-262024-02-26611423The Influence of Job Satisfaction on the Job Performance of Librarians: A Case of Higher Educational Institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan
https://jimls.kkkuk.edu.pk/jimls/index.php/jimls/article/view/102

Purpose of the study: This study investigated the status of job satisfaction and level of job performance among the librarians of higher educational institutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Moreover, it explored the influence of job satisfaction on the job performance of Librarians. Methods: A quantitative research method using a survey questionnaire has been used to gather the data from respondents. A self-design questionnaire was developed to meet the aims and objectives of this study with the help of a literature review. The total population was approximately 332 librarians working in various universities and colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A simple random sampling technique was used in this study. The sample size was calculated through the Raosoft sample size calculator. The sample determined was 184 and the response rate was 90%. Correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and job performance among librarians. Results: Librarians displayed high job satisfaction with no significant gender differences and no variations based on designations. Overall job performance was rated as good. However, no significant relationship was found between job satisfaction and the job performance of librarians. Despite high job satisfaction and good performance, the lack of a significant relationship suggests other contributing factors to job performance, necessitating further exploration. The study indicates a positive work environment with equal opportunities, irrespective of gender or designation. Conclusion: Librarians in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa generally expressed high job satisfaction and demonstrated good job performance. However, the absence of a significant relationship between job satisfaction and performance underscores the need for a nuanced understanding of factors influencing librarian performance beyond satisfaction alone. Recommendations: In the light of findings, for the job satisfaction and job performance of librarians it was recommended that a standardized policy is needed for librarians in terms of service structure, pay scales, and promotions, as well as other benefits, equivalent to the teaching and administrative staff in universities and colleges.
Owais KhanDr Sajjad AhmadDr Shehzad AhmadGul e Rana
