Abstract

Purpose of the Study: This study explores the news seeking behavior of undergraduate students enrolled in BS programs in Peshawar, Pakistan. Methodology: The quantitative research method was adopted while using a questionnaire as a data collection tool. A total of 358 copies of the questionnaire were distributed among undergraduates’ students non-randomly, studying in the five different famous colleges of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa these are; (Edwardes, Islamia, Science Superior, Government College, and Jinnah College for women), which have been selected purposefully in KP. All questionnaires were received back but only two were found unusable. The overall response rate of the study was 99.4% percent. Findings/Data Analysis: The data were collected and entered into SPSS after coding. It was analyzed and the inferences were drawn. Most participants accessed various kinds of news from a variety of sources, although participants had individual preferences for their sources of news. Conclusions: The results of this study can be used to provide remarkable insights into the news seeking of undergraduates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and also give the important sources and facilities available to undergraduates for seeking news in an academic environment. Furthermore, these results of the study can be used to improve the newsgathering of the students at the graduate level.
